University of Gloucestershire appoints new Vice-Chancellor, Clare Marchant

We are writing to you with an exciting update, as the University has today announced that Clare Marchant will be our new Vice-Chancellor.

Clare, who has been the CEO at UCAS for the past six years, will join the University later this year. She will replace current Vice-Chancellor, Stephen Marston, who announced in December last year that he will retire from the University at the end of July 2023.

During her time at UCAS, Clare been particularly passionate about increasing higher education opportunities for people from the most disadvantaged backgrounds. Before UCAS, Clare spent seven years at Worcestershire County Council, initially as Head of Change before taking over as Chief Executive in 2014. Other previous roles include a senior leadership role as a digital delivery specialist with the Department of Health.

Clare’s commitment to using higher education to change lives and to enhancing the student experience shone through in the selection process. She has very close ties to Gloucestershire too, and we are delighted that she has agreed to join our fabulous team at the University. We know you will join us in giving her a warm welcome when the time comes.

I am also very pleased to let you know that Jackie Labbe, our Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost, has agreed to fill the role of Acting Vice-Chancellor in the time between Stephen leaving us at the end of July and Clare arriving. We look forward to communicating Clare’s start date with you soon.

Thank you all for your continuing commitment to our university.
