Do You Take Screen Breaks?

It’s easy to forget to take a Screen Break. From emails to spreadsheets, presentations to video calls, screens dominate much of our time and so often we feel we have to stay glued to our screen for most of our working day. Yet taking breaks will improve everything!

Here’s why screen breaks are not just a luxury but a necessity:

Eye Health: Prolonged screen time can strain our eyes, leading to discomfort, dryness, and even headaches. Taking regular breaks allows our eyes to rest and refocus, reducing the risk of eye strain and associated problems.
Physical Well-Being: Sitting for extended periods can take a toll on our bodies, leading to issues like back pain and stiffness. Taking breaks encourages movement, stretching, and posture correction, promoting better physical health and reducing the risk of musculoskeletal problems.
Mental Refreshment: Continuous screen exposure can lead to mental fatigue and decreased concentration levels. By taking breaks, we give our brains a chance to recharge, leading to improved focus, creativity, and overall mental well-being.
Enhanced Productivity: Contrary to popular belief, taking breaks doesn’t hinder productivity; it enhances it. Regular short breaks have been shown to boost efficiency, problem-solving skills, and decision-making abilities. By stepping away from our screens periodically, we return with renewed energy and clarity of mind, ready to tackle tasks with greater effectiveness.
Improved Relationships: Taking breaks provides opportunities for social interaction with colleagues, whether it’s a quick chat in the break room or a stroll around the office. These social connections foster a sense of camaraderie and teamwork.
Work-Life Balance: Incorporating screen breaks into our daily routine reminds us to prioritise our well-being and find balance between work and personal life.
