WEEE Recycling – Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment

What is WEEE?

WEEE stands for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment and includes anything from mobile phones, laptops and printers to TVs, fridges and freezers. Basically, if the item has a plug or a battery and is at the end of its useful life, it’s called WEEE.

We throw away 2 million tonnes a year

As you can imagine, with the rise in technology, and the constant upgrades and advancements, WEEE is a big problem these days. In the UK, we’re throwing away approximately 2 million tonnes of the product every year. That’s the equivalent to 158,103 double decker buses. And talking of double, this figure is expected to do just that in the next 15 years.

Staying compliant as a business

Moreover, in recognition of the dangers of sending WEEE to landfill, it is now a legal requirement for all UK organisations to dispose of their WEEE in the most sustainable manner and without harming the environment. We can work with you to ensure you remain compliant.

Electrical goods are the fastest growing waste stream in the UK, increasing by 5% each year!

Our Service. Your Solution.

Some of the WEEE items we recycle include (but are not limited to):

  • IT equipment
  • Medical devices
  • Video tapes, CDs & DVDs
  • Mobile phones, TVs and tablets
  • Cabling
  • Fax machines and photocopiers
  • White goods
  • Printers
  • Servers & networking equipment

All of these items will be recycled and reprocessed within UK grounds and we also offer a secure destruction service for WEEE items of a confidential nature (see our confidential division for more information).

In addition, prior to collection, we’ll provide you with a storage solution that suits your needs and matches the security requirements of your business. Options can range from a standard wheelie bin to a roll on roll off container.

Loop Closed. Resource Recycled.

Collection
On a pre-scheduled date, we’ll collect your WEEE items and bring them back to our recycling depot.
Dismantling and Segregation
Once at the depot, we’ll manually dismantle and separate the WEEE items into their various components.
Recycling
The components will then be ready for recycling. As WEEE materials vary so much, they will be sent off on their own individual routes to be recycled into a whole range of new products.
