I have over 35 years’ experience in Corporate and Commercial Banking & Finance working as a Director responsible for business development. During that time, I was very privileged to work with many exceptional business leaders. I learned not only from these amazing leaders but also gained some relevant professional qualifications including Associate of The Chartered Institute of Bankers, Diploma in Lending Skills, and Certificate in Business Finance and Management.
The latter qualification proved invaluable over the last two years working on what I call a mini MBA in life experiences. Building on my broad understanding of Businesses I established “Cornerstones Associates Limited”. I have been helping businesses find the right finance lines by using various business models such as the Porters’ Value Chain, the 5 stages of the business cycle and understanding business risks to get the right balance between debt and equity.
More recently, working with a good friend, the founding Director of I-Commercial Finance, helping him to expand his independent Commercial Finance Brokerage. Today I am proud to be an Associate to I-Commercial Finance giving my clients access to the alternative lines of credit Find out more HERE.
I am most proud of my role as Treasurer of The Chamwell Centre Charity, working strategically with an excellent Board including many key business influencers across Gloucestershire. The relatively new Charity aims to raise £5.1m fund raising and building strategic partnerships with businesses, including C2S members Pied Piper, Ease Training, ghj, Creed, and Renishaw. The funding is desperately needed to develop a Hydro Therapy facility adjacent to The Milestone School in Gloucester for children with special needs. The second round of funding has been secured raising close to £4m and phase 2 starts in 2019. I leave the Charity in a much stronger position financially with 3 years Audited Accounts complete, ongoing Management Information system and a Business Plan covering next 5 years. If you wish to support the Charity, for example Bovis Homes recently held a charity ball raising nearly £15 000. To find out more HERE.
I am very grateful for the experiences and I’ve learned you should always love the job you’ve chosen to do, look after your health and spend time with people you like and businesses you are passionate about. I am energised by my experiences, not only finding out about businesses but also other areas of life, I have been fortunate enough to work with some amazing people from a totally focused and determined new father to an Olympian.
So How Can I Help You?
I am now offering Banking Consultancy. It can be lonely as a business leader and often you need to hire people to shore-up your weaknesses and trust them to do the best for you and your business.
You may need help with your business plan or execution of the plan, advice on investment decisions, the potential impact of risks such as Brexit, access to lines of credit or just need a sounding board, then do contact me. I could help you plug the gap in the boardroom in a cost-efficient way, working with you one/two days a month or on a one-off project to achieve a particular goal.
For those of you who know me I love a good inspirational quote, so what did Shakespeare say about great leaders in Twelfth Night?” Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them.”
Based on my experience I now know my values are honesty, integrity, accountability, humility and humour. I’d love to hear from you, if you think there may be a fit or if you would like to find out more in an exploratory informal confidential discussion.
