C2S Manufacturing Focus Group visit the MTC – Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry

We recently took our Manufacturing Focus Group for a visit to this High Value Manufacturing catapult (HVMC) sponsored by government set up to accelerate the UK’s industrial growth.

The HVMC is the catalyst for future growth and success of advanced manufacturing in the UK. It consists of 7 technology and innovation centres across the UK and its vision is to work with companies of all sizes to bridge the gap from concept to commercialisation. All centres offer access to leading edge equipment, expertise and an environment for industry collaboration. The MTC is the Manufacturing & Technology centre based in Coventry.

During the morning we heard from leading experts on how they help business to increase productivity and add real value and cost savings to the organisations they work with. We heard many case studies of how they have taken concept to reality, worked on R & D, advised on materials, equipment and provided a level of knowledge and expertise that has helped many, many organisations save money, increase productivity and improve process. They have access to the most advanced manufacturing equipment and technologies in the world, working with the finest engineers, with an aim for rapid and sustainable growth.

They talked about bridging the” Valley of Death” , their clear vision for UK manufacturing and how they work with all organisations from SME’s to Tier 1 and large OEMs.

Members of the MTC include global leaders such as: Rolls Royce, Siemens, Nikon, BOC, Hewlett Packard, Renishaw, Airbus and many, many more…….

At the MTC there technology themes include:- Design and Simulation, Metrology and NDT, Robotics and Autonomous Systems, Manufacturing Informatics, Advanced Tooling and Fixing, Electronics Manufacturing, Additive Manufacturing, High Integrity Fabrication and non-conventional Machining and they are building a whole new construction facility to support the future innovations for this sector.
Everyone in attendance received their Change handbook, an invaluable read  to all with a tour of one of their high security labs. A chance to look at the latest technologies from robotics working alongside humans to game changing innovations in reduce waste and cost.

The visit was such a huge success that we have arranged for the team to visit us in Gloucestershire later in the year – let us know if you’d like us to keep you posted on the date or check them out on
